Ostsee Therme
Ostsee Therme Scharbeutz stands for wellness, water worlds, and panoramic Baltic Sea views. Spanning more than 14,000 m², around 500,000 guests enjoy a relaxing escape each year – from wave pools and extensive sauna facilities to direct beach access – all complemented by a diverse and modern gastronomy concept.
High Visitor Frequency Requires Sustainable Packaging Solutions
In a thermal spa, everything is in motion: from the pool to the sun lounger, from the sauna to the beach promenade, from the family area to the restaurant – and the same applies at Ostsee Therme GmbH Co. KG in Scharbeutz, in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. This dynamic atmosphere is part of the unique appeal of leisure and adventure pools, but it also presents significant operational challenges, especially in the food service sector.
Here, wet hands meet hot burgers, bathrobes meet coffee to go, and beach walks meet fish & chips. Not only must the food and beverage offering be carefully designed – packaging must also be sturdy, hygienic, and ready for fast-paced use. Sustainability plays a central role at Ostsee Therme. The spa pursues ecological, social, and economic goals, including certified energy management in accordance with ISO 50001. Non-recyclable single-use packaging is being gradually reduced. Enjoyment and responsibility go hand in hand here.
Three Dining Areas – One Well-Designed To-Go Concept
To round off the spa experience for swimmers, sauna guests, and day visitors alike, a compelling food concept is essential. The team at Ostsee Therme combines classic poolside dining with modern, fresh culinary concepts. Three independent dining areas cater to the diverse needs of guests.
The thermal spa restaurant “Waves,” offering around 150 seats and a front-cooking area, serves freshly prepared dishes to recharge guests after an active day in the water: burgers, pasta, salads, fries, or currywurst – complemented by monthly special promotions. “Waves” blends traditional spa favorites with contemporary food trends, appealing equally to families and individual wellness guests.
“MeerBar” is the meeting point between sauna sessions. With direct views of the Baltic Sea, guests enjoy fresh juices, cocktails, light snacks, and healthy dishes. Around 60 seats and bar spaces create a relaxed atmosphere – ideal for a refreshing break with a sea view.
A true highlight is the beachside bistro “Düne 1.” Located directly at the private beach access, it offers 60 outdoor seats and an integrated takeaway counter. Guests can access the bistro from the beach as well as directly from the spa and sauna areas – even in their bathrobes. The menu features fish sandwiches, fries, fish & chips, ice cream, and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The collaboration between the two companies demonstrates that sustainable foodservice packaging is not an add-on, but a core element of the overall concept. In this way, relaxation, quality, and responsibility are seamlessly combined – creating a true success story.
